Vintage Theatre presents AGNES OF GOD (By John Pielmeier) May 30 – July 8, 2018 in Aurora, CO. Summoned to a convent, Dr. Martha Livingstone is charged with assessing the sanity of a novice nun accused of murdering her new-born. Who killed the infant and who fathered the tiny victim? Livingstone’s questions force all three women to re-examine the meaning of faith and the power of love leading to a dramatic, compelling climax.
The cast includes Haley Johnson as Dr. Martha Livingstone, Emma Messenger as Mother Superior and Mariel Goffredi as Agnes and is directed by Craig A. Bond.
John Pielmeier was inspired to write “Agnes of God” after seeing in article in a newspaper about an event that occurred in a convent in Brighton, New York. The play opened on Broadway March 30, 1982 at the Music Box Theatre. Amanda Plummer received the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play and Geraldine Page was nominated for Best Actress in a Play. The 1985 film adaptation was directed by Norman Jewison, with a script also written by Pielmeier. It garnered three Academy Award nominations: Meg Tilly was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, Anne Bancroft for Lead Actress for her performance as Mother Miriam.
His television credits include Choices of the Heart, Sybil, The Capture of the Green River Killer, The Memory Keeper’s Daughter, The Pillars of the Earth and World Without End.
Vintage Theatre is enticing audiences with AGNES OF GOD, opening Wednesday, May 30 at 7:30 p.m. and running through July 8. Performances are Wednesday, May 30, Thursday, May 31 and Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m.; Sundays and Saturday, July 7 at 2:30 p.m. with additional performances on Monday, June 11 and Thursdays, July 5 at 7:30 p.m. at Vintage Theatre, 1468 Dayton St., Aurora 80010.
