Benchmark Theatre’s 2021 Season

Benchmark Theatre announces the return of their programming during the Covid-
19 pandemic. All mainstage programming had previously been cancelled/postponed earlier this
year when the coronavirus halted all gatherings. Ironically, the new bite-sized programming still
fits the 2020 theme of “Hopes and Fears” as Benchmark continues to offer the World Premiere
Project workshop series of local playwright, Luke Sorge’s National Bohemians. Benchmark will
also be bringing back their popular genre favorite, the Fever Dream Festival, with a holiday-
themed twist! And, even more exciting, it will feature all local playwrights as Benchmark
presents this year’s Festival as a 48 hour playwriting adventure.

The Inaugural WorkBench Project
By Luke Sorge
Directed by Warren Sherrill

November 13-15 & 20-22, 2020

Join us this fall for a first look at a play in development by local playwright Luke Sorge as the
kickoff to our WorkBench Project program, cultivating new works.

When the oldest of three estranged brothers decides to take their mother's end-of-life care into
his own hands, the other two – and his daughter – have plans of their own. Trapped in the place
they swore they'd never return by a hurricane, they find that what's inside may be worse than
the storm outside.
These two weekends of staged readings will give small audiences a glimpse into the workshop
process of a brand new play, the opportunity to contribute some of their own thoughts to its

progress, and the potential to see those ideas come to life on stage in a fully-produced world
Fever Dream Festival
48-Hour Virtual Playwriting Adventure

December 11-20, 2020

Benchmark Theatre invites you to join us for a virtual 48 hour playwriting festival for a chance
to be produced at The Bench in our FDF: Winter Holiday Special.
The Fever Dream Festival is returning to Benchmark this winter with limited capacity
performances of new 10-minute genre plays with a unique holiday twist, and we’re inviting
Colorado writers and aspiring writers to play with The Bench in a wild weekend of virtual
In this special format, writers and writing teams will have just 48 hours to take their guidelines,
genre, and winter holiday prompts and create some festival magic. At the end of the writing
adventure, a select number of these plays will be chosen through a lottery process to be
produced by Benchmark and performed by the five members of our 2020 FDF ensemble this
holiday season, and all plays will be made publicly available on Benchmark’s website for reading
and celebration.
There is no entry fee and no competition, just a chance to have some fun, shake off the Covid
blues, and give your creativity a chance to stretch its legs. We are so excited to see the scope of
talent, ingenuity, and surprises that this adventure will unleash!
