Evil Dead: The Musical

Music by George Reinblatt, Frank Cipolla, Christopher Bond and Melissa Morris

Directed by Deb Flomberg-Rollins

Music Direction by Colin Roybal, Choreography by Christian Munck

January 26 – February 17, 2018

“It’s an old tale. You’ve probably heard it a hundred times. Boy and his friends go in a week-long vacation in the woods. Three friends turn into Candarian Demons. One friend is killed by a forest of evil trees. Two demons are killed by their boyfriends respectively, while one stays in the cellar trying to kill everything in sight. Like I said, pretty standard stuff.” – Ash. Equinox previously presented this in 2013 and again in 2015, receiving the BroadwayWorld Award for Best Comedic Musical.

Reefer Madness: The Musical

Book and Lyrics by Kevin Murphy, Music by Dan Studney

Directed by Colin Roybal

March 23 – April 28, 2018

Inspired by the 1936 film of the same name, this raucous musical comedy takes a tongue-in-cheek look at the hysteria caused when clean-cut kids fall prey to marijuana, leading them on a hysterical downward spiral filled with evil jazz music, sex and violence. You won’t be able to resist the spoofy fun of Reefer Madness. The addictive and clever musical numbers range from big Broadway-style showstoppers like “Down at the Ol’ Five and Dime” and the Vegas-style “Listen to Jesus Jimmy.” Equinox previously presented this show twice in 2009 and again in 2010, receiving the Denver Post Ovation Award for Best Musical.

Little Shop of Horrors

Book Music and Lyrics by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken

Directed by Colin Roybal

May 25 – June 16, 2018

A deviously delicious Broadway and Hollywood sci-fi smash musical, Little Shop Of Horrors has devoured the hearts of theatre goers for over 30 years. The meek floral assistant Seymour Krelborn stumbles across a new breed of plant he names “Audrey II” – after his coworker crush. This foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore promises unending fame and fortune to the down and out Krelborn as long as he keeps feeding it, BLOOD. Over time, though, Seymour discovers Audrey II’s out of this world origins and intent towards global domination!

Guys and Dolls

Music and Lyrics by Frank Loesser

Book by Abe Burrows and Jo Swerling

Directed by Deb Flomberg-Rollins

July 27 – August 18, 2018

Set in Damon Runyon’s mythical New York City, Guys and Dolls is an oddball romantic comedy. Gambler, Nathan Detroit, tries to find the cash to set up the biggest craps game in town while the authorities breathe down his neck; meanwhile, his girlfriend and nightclub performer, Adelaide, laments that they’ve been engaged for fourteen years. Nathan turns to fellow gambler, Sky Masterson, for the dough, and Sky ends up chasing the straight-laced missionary, Sarah Brown, as a result. Guys and Dolls takes us from the heart of Times Square to the cafes of Havana, Cuba, and even into the sewers of New York City, but eventually everyone ends up right where they belong. Don’t miss the Guys and Dolls you’ve NEVER seen before featuring an exciting Equinox-twist!

Atomic*

Book and Lyrics by Danny Ginges

Music and Lyrics by Philip Fozman

Directed by Patrick Brownson

November 9 – December 1, 2018

The atom bomb’s creation during WWII was an unprecedented collaboration of minds. America’s brightest academics, brilliant refugee scientists fleeing the terrors of Europe, government and military leaders, an army of construction and factory workers with no idea what they were working on. A tossed salad of humanity, united and driven by urgent necessity. Battling the clock, bureaucracy and each other to beat Hitler to the weapon that would decide the war. Only once Germany had surrendered did focus shift to Japanese cities. By then the project had grown too big to stop. But one man did try to stop it. A man since buried by history. But without his intellect and determination, the weapon that could end us might never have had its start. His name is Leo Szilard. His is the story of the bomb we were never told.
