REVIEW: THE NUTCRACKER with the Colorado Ballet at the Denver Center
My mom and I had the best mommy daughter date ever! First we had dinner at Sams.No3, then walked our way down to the Ellie Caulkins Opera House. When I walked in for the first time in my life, it was exactly how I imagined it – FANCY. I liked how the orchestra was below the stage so you could have a clear view of the dancers. I also appreciated the little screens in front of you that narrated the story.
When the show started I loved how the setting actually looked like you were in a toy store. Their costumes were so cool and fun. I also enjoyed how they included children and how everyone acted as if this was real. Act One did a great job of telling the gist of the story.
Act Two it was also really wonderful. I actually liked it better because there were a lot more funny and entertaining moments. My favorite number was “Mother Ginger”. Her silly dancing made the show playful, especially when she dabbed at the end. The Candies were absolutely delightful, they had different styles of dance and their costumes were beautiful.
One last thing that I really admired was that you could see the conductor working his magic, I thought that was cool. For my first ballet I would give it a 10 out of 10. I highly recommend it for all ages and this ballet is great to watch with family. Overall the whole experience was really fun and I would definitely go back again!!!
